The 64 hectare site, situated near Royston in South Yorkshire, is home to an array of wildlife – including newts, snakes and herons. Over 90 years ago, I was born in Barnsley, Yorkshire, to a working-class family. Poverty was as natural to us as great wealth and power were to the aristocracy of that age.
